ROCK'N'ROLL
Nachricht von Ozzy Balou
Eine Rekonstruktion
von Anis Hamadeh

ENGLISH INTRODUCTION

"Rock'n'Roll. Message from Ozzy Balou" was written between October 2001 and March 2002. It consists of 96 messages and is devided into two books with 48 messages each. Every two days a new message was posted. The book has the form of a message board, and it is referred to from within as "the chronicle". It is written in German and not yet translated.

The Idea

When Rock'n'Roll singer Ozzy Balou returns to Germany after nine years of absence, his friends have the idea of an internet chronicle, in which 68 (more or less fictitious) people from the past are talking. The book deals with the question, how big one can and may get in our society. In the discourse, many taboo subjects are tackled.

A bit more detailed, please...

OK, it all starts with an email from Ozzy to his three friends Maria, Carl, and Simon. Subject of the mail is "Never kill a Rock'n'Roller", in which Ozzy says that he is coming back to Hamburg, now that Leonard Cohen is out of his monastry, too. Ozzy, who has a father of Moroccan origin and a German mother, had left Germany in 1992, first for Paris, then Tunis, then nobody knows. Maria played keyboards in the band OZZY AND THE BULLETS, and Carl played drums. They had a high time in 1989 with their music, and their home stage was the BLUESLAND in Hamburg. All went very well until the summer of 1991, when the BULLETS seemed to have reached their zenith. At least, this is what some people say. Problems started within the band and also with the press. Then, on September 10, 1992, the BLUESLAND became the target of an assault, and it burned down. The BULLETS disbanded, and Ozzy left for Paris at the end of that year.

Nine years later he comes back. When Simon, a journalist, Maria, and Carl got his message, they started a long investigation. Everybody was shocked by September 11, and it seemed to them, as if the burning of the BLUESLAND had similar social causes. So the three sat together and called "The Editor", a historian, who did a similar job in a story called "The Story of Marianne S." (eight pages, not in the net, and not translated). All mails concerning Ozzy and the case of the BLUESLAND were collected and edited there, and put in the web in two-day intervals. In the list of persons you can see them all.
To be continued

And is that all I can get out of this?

No, of course not. Why are you so impatient? There are a couple of special effects in the book, like the register. You can get an idea about the book, when you look at the entries and names, even if you don't know German. And there you can also find five audios from Ozzy's songs. Most of them are from the CD ANIS ELECTRIC:

1) EVERYBODY TO BE FREE
2) I DON'T BELIEVE YOU
3) SOME SPACE
4) ON THE LONG RUN
5) YOU NEVER WOKE UP WITH A BIRD
